Six months full of new energy! Former Trainee Laure speaking.

Work hard play hard! Music nice and loud, working on the sofa, joking around, having lunch together and working really hard. That, in a nutshell, is what an average day at the guys at On The Rocks looks like.

Work hard play hard

Music nice and loud, working on the sofa, joking around, having lunch together and working really hard. That, in a nutshell, is what an average day at the guys at On The Rocks looks like. As you can imagine, in my first weeks as an intern, this was pretty intense. But luckily it got used!

In the first week I immediately got to know the dynamics of the team, always sociable, always hardworking and always time for a faint joke. If you ask me, the perfect working atmosphere.

For my studies in media and event management, I got to do an internship at a company of my own choosing from the beginning of February to the beginning of June. Due to corona, it was very difficult to find an internship in the events sector at the moment. But through internship market, I ended up at B11Event Group. Knowing that finding the right internship was difficult, I wanted to get it right the first time and applied creatively. This was a success and after one job interview I was hired.

In early February, I went to my first internship day with no expectations. "Going in blank and not expecting too much" I had said to myself. Right on the first day, I was told that B11Media, B11Events' other company, was going to become On The Rocks. Bas and Thijs would join the company from then on.

Freedom to learn

What appealed to me most of all was the freedom to be allowed to learn. Whether I wanted to learn the new skills of Photoshop or solving a Rubiks Cube, it was all possible and allowed. The guidance was always there. Ritchie taught me all the ins and outs of marketing and Bas taught me the formulas to solve a Rubiks Cube, among other things.

Always they made time to teach me something or involve me in a project. The motto of On The Rocks is also not for nothing: "Rise by lifting others". What has been a real learning point for me is that I always get to check my work again. This is an extra moment of control that allows me to avoid sloppiness mistakes.
Mistakes remain human and happen sometimes, but getting angry, we don't do that here in the office.

Not a day without fun

The weekend and the week ahead are always discussed at the joint lunch. Here, too, the jokes just go on. Thanks to this informal atmosphere, I really enjoyed going to my internship every day for the past five months. This was a great confirmation for me that I have a very cool internship!

When our office fish Gerrie passed away a fortnight ago, the atmosphere was a bit different than usual. Sad music was played and we all shed a tear. But then again, that's part of the game.

All in all, I look back on a learning and enjoyable internship period.
So I wish the upcoming intern(s) a lot of fun, but especially strength with these young entrepreneurs.

xoxo Laure
